Course description
This early life nutrition training manual designed to boost the knowledge of pharmacy professionals in early life nutrition and management of common nutrition related problems. This early life nutrition course for pharmacy professionals has 5 sessions. It comprised of the basics of nutrition by addressing food, diet and nutrition; nutrients and their food sources, overview of malnutrition, global and national epidemiology of malnutrition, nutritional requirements during pregnancy and lactation; infant and young child feeding and gut health and infant nutrition. Following this, the nutritional problems that are of public health importance in Ethiopia and the different methods of nutritional assessment are elaborated; followed by the prevention and control of the main nutritional problems of Ethiopia, including severe micronutrient malnutrition. Nutrition and HIV, as well as nutrition and diet-related chronic diseases are also addressed within the training manual.
Course goal
This course is designed for pharmacy professionals to build their knowledge, skills and attitude through reflective way of teaching in early life nutrition and enhancing their participation for the management of common nutrition related problems mostly in the management of malnutrition and improving their role in special nutritional care at the different stages of life.
